Ben Shelton had always been a natural athlete. Growing up in Florida, he started playing tennis at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. By the time he was in high school, he was already being recruited by top universities for their tennis programs. He ultimately chose to attend the University of Florida, where he continued to excel on the court.
